Thematic Line Coordinator – Adélio Mendes

This is a very active and broad research area at ALiCE, where the main research areas are: i) harvest, conversion, and storage of energy from renewable sources; ii) hydrogen and synthetic fuels production technologies and; iii) energy efficiency and thermal comfort. Concerning the first area, dye sensitised solar cells (DSSC) for indoor applications such as IoT, perovskite solar cells (PSC) for efficient and safe sunlight conversion into electricity, redox flow batteries, sodium-ion batteries, PEMFC and TES are the most researched topics. Concerned the second area, CO2 electroreduction to fuels, electrochemical and photoelectrochemical water splitting for green-hydrogen, bright and turquoise hydrogen, transport, separation, and storage of hydrogen, are the main researcher topics along with the production of green methanol. Finally, concerning the third area, studies on strategies to mitigate the detrimental health and societal effects of global warming, occupational health, and the safety of fire-fighting personnel are addressed.
